Last month, we let you know Bay View may be getting a new “wheel park” in Beulah Brinton Playfield (2555 S. Bay St.). The 5,000-square-foot-or-less park—dubbed the “Wheel Spot”—would cater to skateboarders, BMX bikers, rollerbladers, and scooter riders of all ages.

The park is the long-in-the-works brainchild of the Bay View Neighborhood Association (BVNA), which is working with Milwaukee Recreation to make it happen. The overall project would also include renovated basketball courts for Beulah Brinton Playfield, as well as an ADA accessible pathway and new shade trees.

We said “may be getting a new wheel park” because the project is still about $75,000 shy of its construction goal. In an effort to help bring in funds for the new Wheel Spot project, the BVNA will host a fundraiser tomorrow (June 21), which is the first day of summer and National Go Skateboarding Day. The fundraiser is simple: get food or drinks at one of 23 participating Bay View (and Bay View-adjacent) businesses and a portion of money brought in from your purchase will be donated to BVNA to support the construction of the Wheel Spot. A small handful of retailers will also be accepting donations for the park tomorrow.

So if you’re looking for an excuse to go out to eat and/or get drinks on the first day of summer, you’ve officially found your reason. Do it for the kids! Here’s the full list of participating establishments.
