Sunday, April 14 marks another “Milwaukee Day” here in the Cream City. This holiday, which originated about 15 years ago as an inside joke between friends who realized Milwaukee’s 414 area code had a striking resemblance to the numerals in 4/14, has become a full-blown day of civic celebration complete with a wealth of Milwaukee Day (or “414 Day”) events, beer releases, and specials offered by area businesses.

As you’re cruising all around the city and partaking in Milwaukee’s many wonders this weekend, we figured you might want something to listen to that suits the holiday. So we assembled a playlist that features an eclectic blend of (mostly) Milwaukee-based musicians and their songs about, well, Milwaukee. In addition to going to some Milwaukee Day shows, supporting area businesses, and blasting some of your favorite Milwaukee-made records, we encourage you to make our “Milwaukee Daylist” Spotify playlist your official Milwaukee Day soundtrack.

We repeat: Is Spotify a terrible platform that has done irreparable harm to the music industry? Absolutely. Do you still have a Spotify account in spite of that? Probably. So if you happen to enjoy anything on this playlist, we urge you to listen to more material from those artists, buy their music or other merch directly or on Bandcamp, and (if they’re still active) see them perform live.
