Waaaaaay back in February 2020, we announced we’d be showing the 1997 sci-fi classic, The Fifth Element, at Avalon Theater. The screening—originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 of last year—sold out in a matter of days. As we all know, just weeks after we announced that extra special film event, the COVID-19 crisis abruptly halted pretty much all in-person events in Milwaukee an virtually everywhere else. Foolishly, we tried to postpone the sell-out screening to April 29 of last year, thinking society would surely band together to address this once in a lifetime pandemic and that things would be back to normal by mid-spring. We, of course, were wrong.
Today, more than 18 months after first announcing the screening, we’re please to inform you our The Fifth Element showing will finally be able to happen. IF—AND ONLY IF—YOU BOUGHT TICKETS TO LAST YEAR’S SCREENING, you’re cordially invited to watch it with us at Avalon Theater on Wednesday, September 22. Knowing you probably have some questions, Avalon Theater management sent a mass email to people who purchased tickets to The Fifth Element last year. If you’re one of those folks and the email wound up in your spam folder or was sent to an account you no longer use of something, here’s what the email has to say:
We are pleased to announce the re-scheduling of our sold out Fifth Element screening! If you are receiving this email, you are in our records as having purchased tickets to the original screening from March 2020. Please find all the pertinent information below.
When is the new screening?
Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:00pm.How do I redeem new tickets?
Stop in any time before the screening with either this email or your original ticket confirmation email from 2020. We will then cross-check your email address with our purchased tickets list, issue new tickets, and cross you off the list. Note that we will not be able to look up tickets using your credit card. (Our lobby doors open 30 minutes prior to the first showtime every day, Wed – Sun.)What if I can’t make it?
We’re sorry about that! You may stop into the theater to redeem a movie pass that is valid for any first-run or classic film. If you’re not able to stop into the theater, simply reply to this email stating that you won’t be able to make the new showtime, include your mailing address, and we will be happy to send you passes.Wait, isn’t the Avalon reserved seating now?
We are! However, for this one showing we are reverting to general first-come-first-serve seating, since that’s how the tickets were originally sold. Can I buy additional tickets?
Due to the screening already being sold out, we will not be able to offer any additional advance tickets. However, there may be some rush tickets available on the evening of the show due to guests not being able to make the showtime.
Just like in early 2020, the screening will be sponsored by our friends at Lakefront Brewery—who will have a few beers on tap at the event—and Educators Credit Union. If you have any more questions, please call Avalon Theater at 414-539-6678 or contact them online. And if you didn’t buy tickets to this, prepare for a Milwaukee Record screening of another title in late October.
