On Day 1 of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the security perimeter was abuzz with a large protest march. The area was much quieter on Day 2—Tuesday, July 16—though early-afternoon news that police officers from Columbus, Ohio had shot and killed a man near the intersection of 14th and Vliet—more than half a mile away from the RNC security zone—caused controversy throughout the rest of the day.
Here are our photos from Day 2. They include a glimpse of Mitch McConnell, a table full of Trump merch, a lot of security, a lot of fences, and a lot of empty streets. Restaurants immediately outside the RNC grounds—Old German Beer Hall, for example—were fairly busy around 1 p.m., but places a block or two away were fairly quiet. We ate lunch at Xankia (which also has a tent inside the RNC grounds) and it was great. Support local businesses, Milwaukee.
