The Republican National Convention takes over Milwaukee this week, July 15-18. It’ll be a huge moment for politicians, reporters, local tourism groups, and local food hall owners. What will the rest of us get out of it? Dunno. Nothing. It’s not for us. Like the song says, stay away from downtown.

Hell, we won’t even be able to see the new Ronald Reagan biopic, Reagan, starring Dennis Quaid! That’s because while the RNC will screen the film 13 times this week in the Regency Ballroom of the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, those screenings will be for delegates and other RNC folks only. Not even members of the press are allowed. And yes, 13 times!

Just a few of the RNC ‘Reagan’ screenings.

Also, Jon Voight is in it, and Scott Stapp from Creed plays Frank Sinatra. Incredible.

So anyway, here are oodles of counter-RNC events happening this week, all part of the “Great Milwaukee Block Party.” We love you, Milwaukee. Stay safe/sane this week.

And oh yeah, The Daily Show canceled its Milwaukee shows.
