With a well-attended four-show “Fire In February” residency this winter, two excellent songs released for WMSE’s annual Record Store Day 7-inch, a flurry of high-profile festival gigs, a well-deserved $20,000 Backline grant, and as the namesake and headliner of the recent “Cosmic Weekend,” it’s safe to say 2018 has been one hell of a year for Abby Jeanne.

Today, mere hours after the conclusion of Abby Jeanne’s Cosmic Weekend festivities, the tireless talent officially extended the excitement into 2019, with the announcement that her long-awaited sophomore album, Music Box Dancer, will be released on January 4. Adding to the fun is news that she’ll be debuting the album in full during a January 5 release show at Turner Hall.

If January is too far away for your next dose of Abby Jeanne, you’re in luck! In accordance with Monday’s announcement, the incomparable singer decided to give listeners a preview of the new record by releasing two tracks from Music Box Dancer. Recorded and mixed by Daniel Holter at Wire & Vice and mastered by Mystery Room Masterings’ Justin Perkins, “Pleasures Pain” brings the same raw and jangly energy as last year’s “Cosmic Beings” single. “Die Easy” is actually a cover of a Devil Met Contention song—which she initially performed during our 2017 Local Coverage benefit concert—that adds heaps of soul and a doo wop twist to the local Americana outfit’s material.

While you recover from Abby Jeanne’s Cosmic Weekend and prepare for January’s release/release show, listen to “Pleasures Pain” and “Die Easy” below.
