At this point, it’s possible (if not probable) you’ve yet to hear Mari Mari. In its relatively brief history, the band—which features past members of Flat Teeth, John The Savage, Those Royals, and Saebra & Carlyle in its ranks—has only managed a small handful of live outings and released exactly one song out into the world. However, that’s all about to change.

In addition to upping its frequency of shows this past winter, performing on WMSE’s Local/Live last month, and posting its excellent lead single “Shark” on streamers this spring, Mari Mari has been putting the finishing touches on a debut EP they recorded with Skott Moriarti at Broken Robot Studios. That four-song effort, entitled We Don’t Talk About It, will officially be released on Friday, May 9 when the quartet headlines a Club Garibaldi concert to mark the milestone.

Prior to next weekend’s release show, Mari Mari is allowing Milwaukee Record to premiere the second single from the EP. “Mile Wide” is a warm and peppy indie rock jaunt that tackles introspective themes. Singer-guitarist Nik Stoehr tells us the song deals with his efforts to recognize and work on his temper and his occasional tendency to overreact.

Between the overarching theme of ongoing self-improvement, the boisterous instrumentation, and soaring standout harmonies, Mari Mari’s latest is sure to put them on the radars of many more Milwaukee music fans soon. Before the band celebrates the digital release (CDs will also be available soon) of We Don’t Talk About It at Club Garibaldi on Friday, May 9, get better acquainted with Mari Mari and listen to “Mile Wide” now.
