Here’s how things usually work: Each month, we host a screening of a classic film at Avalon Theater. For example, we’re showing Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World there on February 28 (and tickets are still available!). The morning after said screening, we publicly announce the next one. Then, in the 21 to 28 days that typically follow, we bust ass to get the word out to as many people as we can before the night of the movie. Rinse, lather, repeat.

Well, after years of doing it that way, we’re going to try something that’s a little bit different and something that probably makes a whole lot more sense. How would you like more advance notice about screenings?! It’s worth a shot! Instead of waiting until February 29 to reveal the next movie pick, we’re prepared to tell you March’s screening selection TODAY. And hey, while we’re at it, let’s just give you the April and May titles too!

Wednesday, March 27

Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Bark twice if you’re in Milwaukee. In celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary (oh god, we’re old!), we’re screening the infinitely quotable 2004 comedy classic Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy on Wednesday, March 27. Will Ferrell stars as the eponymous 1970s newscaster and leads an all-star ensemble that also features Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, and so many more. Whammy, that’s one hell of a cast! We’ve done studies, you know. Sixty percent of the time, Anchorman is great every time. Tickets to this 7 p.m. screening cost $11 and they’re available NOW.

Wednesday, April 10

The Blues Brothers (1980)
How haven’t we screened The Blues Brothers yet? We’re not sure, but that omission won’t be an issue much longer. On Wednesday, April 10, we’ll finally be showing the seminal 1980 action comedy. The John Landis-directed two-hander stars Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as musicians who are on “a mission from God” to save an orphanage. That mission takes them throughout the Midwest, including an unforgettable freeway scene that was filmed right here in Milwaukee. Why are we telling you the plot? You know this movie, you love it, and you can watch it with us by grabbing $11 tickets to the 7 p.m. screening NOW.

Wednesday, May 29

Back To The Future Part II (1989)
Last but certainly not least, we come to our Wednesday, May 29 screening. That night, we’ll follow-up our sold out 2023 screening of Back To The Future with an opportunity to watch the film’s (also very good) sequel. Back To The Future Part II brings Marty, Doc Brown, Biff, and Marty’s mom Lorraine back for another round of time traveling fun. Visit the strange and futuristic world of 2015 by way of this family-friendly favorite. Tickets to this 7 p.m. screening are $11 and, you guessed it, available NOW.

Though our rollout of these movies have changed a little, our wonderful partners have remained the same. Each of these screenings is made possible through the support of our friends at Lakefront Brewery and Gruber Law Offices, who sponsor these screenings. We hope you join us at Avalon Theater this spring!
