Last year, we posited Milwaukee Comedy Cafe’s relocation from the Brady Street space it occupied for 27 years to a smaller, second floor space above a restaurant on Old World Third Street officially dashed any hope the already underperforming comedy club would bring in any comedians of note any time soon, if ever. Well, close to nine months after that semi-scathing editorial was drafted, we’re willing to admit we were wrong. In two weeks, the quaint comedy venue will play host to a performer who has toured the world, starred on a Comedy Central series for four seasons, and is a household name in the comedy community. Unfortunately, that household name is Carlos Mencia.

On Wednesday, April 6, the Mind Of Mencia namesake (whose first name is actually Ned, by the way), admitted joke thief, and walking punchline will come to Milwaukee’s Comedy Cafe in what’s being called a “special event.” For the 2006-era price of $25 (not including the two drink minimum), you can be among the select few to see Mencia disparage the mentally challenged, make sweeping racial generalizations, and maybe tell more jokes George Lopez wrote. There’s also VIP seating available for $40 (again, not including the two drink minimum), which includes such perks as priority seating in the first three rows, a meet and greet 30 minutes before doors open to the general public, a photo with Mencia, and a piece of signed merchandise.
