Is there anything better than the annual Milwaukee Film Festival? No. Is there anything better than bowling? Strangely, also no. So why not combine the two? From September 22 through October 6, the screens of the Landmark Oriental Theatre, Landmark Downer Theatre, Fox-Bay Cinema Grill, Times Cinema, and Avalon Theater will be lit up with hundreds upon hundreds of films. And on Sunday, September 25, the lanes of Landmark Lanes will also be lit up (so to speak) with the inaugural “There Will Be Bowling” tournament, sponsored by Milwaukee Record.

Yes, during the first weekend of MFF2016, we’ll be hosting our very own movie-themed bowling tournament. With a name inspired by that final scene in There Will Be Blood (spoilers!), we promise bowling, plenty of drinking (milkshakes or otherwise), and none of the unseemly bludgeoning. Here are the details:

THERE WILL BE BOWLING
A movie-themed bowling tournament during the 2016 Milwaukee Film Festival, sponsored by Milwaukee Record.

WHEN: Sunday, September 25, 5-9 p.m. (post-Packers)
WHERE: Landmark Lanes
COST: $10 per person (collected the night-of)
WHAT YOU GET FOR $10: 3 games of bowling, 1 pair of shoes, 1 free ticket to a Cinema Hooligante film at the Oriental Theatre immediately following the tournament (film TBA)

RULES: We’re keeping things simple. Six teams of five people will bowl three games. Highest series score wins. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. (Prizes TBA, but expect plenty of MFF tickets/swag, plenty of Milwaukee Record swag, and plenty of other goodies.) Groups of 2-5 bowlers will be kept together on single teams. Costumes from bowling-themed movies (There Will Be Blood, The Big Lebowski, Kingpin, Buffalo 66, etc.) are encouraged. All skill levels welcome. Have fun.

Space is limited, so sign up now! Email us at [email protected] with BOWLING as the subject, and include your group size and your best guess at your bowling average. Let’s throw some rocks and enjoy some films, Milwaukee!
