Somewhere between Jeopardy! and themed trivia nights at your local bar lies The Catered Quiz. The Milwaukee-area podcast, created and hosted by Milwaukee-area treasure Rick Katschke, is built on a deceptively simple premise: guests choose two topics of personal expertise ahead of time, and Katschke builds a personalized (one might say “catered”) quiz around those topics. “If you pick the topics, how hard can the quiz be?” asks the show’s description. Well…
It turns out it can be hard—and, thanks to Katschke’s tricky-but-fair questions, a lot of fun. Since launching in January, The Catered Quiz has found guests like Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher of The Found Footage Festival, Matt Mueller of OnMilwaukee, and, yes, Matt Wild and Tyler Maas of ye olde Milwaukee Record answering questions about Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, Shrek, Beastie Boys, American Movie, the Green Bay Packers, Nicolas Cage movies, Walt Disney World, commercials from the ’90s and early ’00s, and much more. Episodes are a breezy 30 minutes or so, and it’s good times to scream out answers while contestants struggle to remember, say, Toonces the Driving Cat.
