Next year is shaping up to be a funny one for Milwaukee.

Come January 2020, Ampersand Theater Company—a local improv outfit—will move to its new and improved space (in the former location of In Tandem’s Tenth Street Theater at 628 N. 10th St.) and Walker’s Point will be home to a new comedy club when The Laughing Tap opens on at 706B S. 5th St. Before either establishment opens, however, they’ll need a little help to get up and running.

In October, Ampersand announced an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign for $30,000 (which they’re close to achieving with less than three weeks to go). Now, The Laughing Tap is also asking for a little assistance to help them down the home stretch. This week, Milwaukee Comedy—which owns the new bar and comedy venue—announced they’re asking for donations to get the business up and running next month.

“We need a paltry $10,000–$15,000 to make our dream a reality,” the press release says. “We can get there with your support!”

In exchange for donations, Milwaukee Comedy is offering supporters “swag” and tickets to upcoming Laughing Tap events. For as low as $20, donors can get an early look at the new comedy club during the December 18 soft opening show. Other packages include a four-pack of tickets to the opening weekend shows that are set to take place January 10-11. This week, The Laughing Tap also announced a December 19 installment of Deep Space, its first show that will be open to the public.

The Laughing Tap will be fully up and running next month, but you can help “Milwaukee’s Home For Comedy” start strong by donating today.
