Longtime Milwaukee Record readers will remember our reviews of Summerfest‘s Taped / Pre-Recorded Music. From 2014 through 2021, our very own Tyler Maas would go to Summerfest at noon on opening day, head over to JoJo’s Martini Lounge on the south end of the grounds, and bask in an hour of canned music that was always mysteriously included and advertised on the Lounge’s schedule.
Things petered out near the end (2019’s headline: “Review: Nothing, formerly known as ‘Taped Music’ and ‘Pre-Recorded Music,’ at JoJo’s Martini Lounge”), and JoJo’s was eventually rebranded as the South Party Pavilion, but there was always hope that Taped / Pre-Recorded Music would one day make a comeback.
That comeback is looking unlikely, however, thanks to today’s news that 2025 will see the transformation of the South Party Pavilion into the country-themed Lasso Lounge. According to a Summerfest press release, the stage will feature “boot-stompin’ entertainment all three weekends of the festival—from live music and mechanical bull rides to line dancing, specialty cocktails, and more.”
Here, indeed, is more:
Throughout Summerfest, the Lasso Lounge will host some of the local area’s best country and rock bands, such as Madison County, Shotgun Jane, Southbound, Bootjack Road, Chasin’ Mason, Crossfire, Roadcrew, and more. In addition to the live music, fans will enjoy a mix of Country, Rock, and Americana tunes spun by various DJs.
Festgoers are invited to saddle up for summer fun at the Lasso Lounge during Summerfest—learn a new line dance, take a ride on the mechanical bull or grab a beverage, such as a Coors Banquet served in a signature boot can cooler, or kick back with one of the lounge’s new specialty cocktails.
So long, South Party Pavilion, and so long, Taped / Pre-Recorded Music. Though an early afternoon block of Garth Brooks or Brooks & Dunn tracks wouldn’t be all that bad.
(Oh yeah: Summerfest 2025 will run June 19-21, June 26-28, and July 3-5.)
