Christmas radio is fine and all, but let’s be honest: how many times do you really need to hear Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” and/or a cover of Wham!’s “Last Christmas”? If you’re looking instead for some locally brewed Christmas songs, look no further than the just-released Wisconsin Christmas. The 22-track comp has it all: rock, hip-hop, indie, metal, electronic; original songs, previously released songs, songs about getting Santa high, and, yes, Milwaukee’s own Diet Lite doing that Jimmy Fallon/Horatio Sanz/SNL song “I Wish It Was Christmas Today.”

Wisconsin Christmas includes artists from the entire state, of course, but there’s plenty of Milwaukee representation: Mark Waldoch, Dinner Set Gang, Faux Fiction, Joe Quinto, Sleepersound, The LOL, The Nile Club, and Yo Dot all contribute new songs to the comp (Quinto is responsible for the delightful “The Night I Got Santa Claus Stoned”), while Caley Conway and Tyler Chicorel chip in previously released holiday tunes (Chicorel and Ashley Smith’s “Give It All Away” is an all-timer).

All proceeds from Wisconsin Christmas will be donated to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission.
