If you thought the return (okay, the semi-return) of the Great Milwaukee Summer was complete, think again. Today, WMSE announced the return of its ever-popular Backyard BBQ. The 11th annual shindig will set up shop at Humboldt Park on Saturday, August 28, from noon to 8 p.m.
What can you expect from the Backyard BBQ? Food, fun, and music, of course! And hey! This year’s all-local music lineup is topped by the great Abby Jeanne, who will be performing her first show since February 2020. Fun! Here’s the full schedule:
Noon – 1 p.m.
1 p.m. – 1:55 p.m.
De La Buena
2:25 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
The Stephen Hull Experience
3:50 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.
5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.
Vincent Van Great
6:45 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Last year’s BBQ was a virtual affair made up of past performances. This year’s real-deal-in-person BBQ will be part of WMSE’s ongoing 40th anniversary celebration.
“This year we decided on an all-local lineup not only to support our amazing music scene but also to celebrate WMSE’s 40th anniversary,” said station manager Tom Crawford in a press release. “Last year we brought the BBQ to your backyard, this year we hope you’ll celebrate with us in Humboldt Park.”
And here’s that Abby Jeanne cover of The Shag’s “Stop And Listen,” which has to be the greatest Milwaukee-on-Milwaukee cover of all time.
