It’s been nearly two months since Summerfest released its 2026 headliner lineup, and there have already been tweaks, changes, and substitutions. And if you’re an area metalhead, one of those changes is kind of drag.
Yes, Dave Mustaine and his mighty Megadeth will no longer play Summerfest on Saturday, July 4 as previously planned. Slayer’s Kerry King will rock the Big Gig instead. No shade on King—he rules and he’s a solid substitution. But, you know, still.
Summerfest cites an “unforeseen scheduling conflict” as the reason for Megadeth dropping out. (A look at Megadeth’s touring schedule puts the band in Barcelona, Spain on July 3, and Lisbon, Portugal on July 5. That would be a hell of a trip just to play the Miller Lite Oasis Stage on the 4th.) Summerfest also notes that “fans who purchased a Level-Up ticket for Megadeth will receive email communication with additional details.”

Like recent years, Summerfest 2026 will take place over three consecutive Thursday-Saturday blocks: June 18-20, June 25-27, and July 2-4 at Henry Maier Festival Park. Unlike recent years, Garth Brooks will play two “kick-off” shows June 16 and 17, and a sole Pussycat Dolls / Lil’ Kim / Mya show is scheduled for June 21. Fun!
