Welcome to Milwaukee Record’s Weird Al Week, sponsored by Lakefront Brewery! Want daily Al-related articles culminating in a recap of Al’s May 24 show at the Marcus Performing Arts Center? You’re in the right place! Oh, and because this is our third Weird Al Week, we’re calling it Weird Al Week (In 3-D)! You know, like the album!

Well, tonight’s the night: “Weird Al” Yankovic at the Marcus Performing Arts Center! But it won’t be just any Weird Al show—it’ll be a Weird Al show that’s part of the “Unfortunate Return Of The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour.” Original tunes! Style (not specific song) parodies! Deep cuts! More!

Again! Yes, as the tour title suggests, this is the second time Al has gone the (largely) non-parody route. Back in 2018, during the first tour, Al played not one, but two shows at Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater. Let’s look at the set lists for those shows now:

MONDAY

Why Does This Always Happen To Me?
Young, Dumb & Ugly
Velvet Elvis
The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota
Buy Me A Condo
My Baby’s In Love With Eddie Vedder
Generic Blues
CNR
Dare To Be Stupid
I’ll Sue Ya
One More Minute
Midnight Star
Don’t Download This Song
Nature Trail To Hell
Jackson Park Express
Medley (Eat It, I Lost On Jeopardy, Amish Paradise, Smells Like Nirvana, White & Nerdy, I Love Rocky Road, Like A Surgeon)
Polka
The Saga Begins

TUESDAY

Fun Zone
Close But No Cigar
My Own Eyes
If That Isn’t Love
When I Was Your Age
UHF
Bob
Good Old Days
Craigslist
Airline Amy
Dog Eat Dog
The Night Santa Went Crazy
Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White
You Don’t Love Me Anymore
Melanie
Albuquerque
Medley
Breakdown (Tom Petty)
Yoda

Sheesh, that’s a lot of good stuff. I went to both shows, and here’s what I was most excited to hear at the time:

The Biggest Ball Of Twine In Minnesota
My Baby’s In Love With Eddie Vedder
Dare To Be Stupid
One More Minute
Midnight Star
UHF
Good Old Days
Dog Eat Dog
The Night Santa Went Crazy
Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White
You Don’t Love Me Anymore
Melanie

Not bad! So what am I looking forward to hearing at tonight’s show? Or, more specifically: Are there any personal favorites that Al didn’t play in 2018?

Well, yes! One of them would be my favorite “Weird Al” Yankovic song of all time, “Frank’s 2000″ TV”:

Some other impossibly deep cuts I’d love to hear (in chronological order):

I’ll Be Mellow When I’m Dead
Mr. Popeil
Slime Creatures From Outer Space
This Is The Life
One Of Those Days
Here’s Johnny
Good Enough For Now
You Make Me
Attack Of The Radioactive Hamsters From A Planet Near Mars
Everything You Know Is Wrong
I Remember Larry

Again, not bad! There are plenty of favorites I haven’t heard live before. And again, since this list kind of peters out around Bad Hair Day, you can totally guess my age!

Hope you had a great Weird Al Week (In 3-D), Milwaukee! See you at the show! Get hyped to “Fun Zone”!
