Less than two weeks after the abrupt shutdown of longtime Walker’s Point restaurant La Perla (why does this sound so familiar?), the building that housed the business for more than two decades has a new prospective tenant. The Milwaukee Business Journal is reporting that Hamburger Mary’s is looking to move its current Bay View restaurant to the site. Says the Business Journal:
“The Bay View burger restaurant recently filed a ‘change of location’ application for its liquor license with the city of Milwaukee. That application says that Hamburger Mary’s—which is a national chain—plans to move to 730-734 S. Fifth St., which is the building that formerly housed the Mexican restaurant La Perla for 22 years.”
Last week, the Business Journal also broke the news that Phoenix Burger LLC—the owner of the building that currently houses the Milwaukee Hamburger Mary’s—had purchased the La Perla building. Hamburger Mary’s has yet to comment on the move, but the Business Journal notes the application includes a September 2016 re-opening. No word yet on whether La Perla’s mechanical riding pepper will figure in to Hamburger Mary’s drag shows.
