In today’s “Yep, that absolutely makes sense” news, Milwaukee’s beloved shirtless power-walking hero Milverine is scheduled to make an appearance at the Avalon Atmospheric Theater (2473 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) on Thursday July 25, for the 6:30 p.m. premiere of the new Deadpool & Wolverine. Yep, that absolutely makes sense.

“Just buy a ticket to the show and come on down to meet the local legend himself and see the new movie the night before its release!!!” says the Avalon. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll bring his dog.

(This is a night after our Avalon screening of 1999’s Cruel Intentions, by the way. Sadly, that screening will not feature appearances by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe.)

Milverine—real name John Frank Hamann—has been a Milwaukee character for more than a decade, famous for hoofing it around town sans shirt, and for bearing more than a passing resemblance to the X-Men’s Wolverine, as portrayed by Hugh Jackman. Hamann has been the subject of countless social media posts, videos, news reports, songs, beers, bobbleheads, and even cat-themed Christmas cards. He threw out the first pitch at a 2023 Brewers game, and Ryan Reynolds may have dissed Jackman with a Milverine reference back in 2018.

Hamann has been active on Instagram for the past year or so (@milverinefrank), documenting his endless jaunts through the city. If you’re not already following him, do yourself a favor and follow him NOW. He always deletes his Reels, so get on it!
