Mandatory Milwaukee: Voting in today’s partisan primary election

Some Milwaukee things come and go, while some become icons. Mandatory Milwaukee is all about the latter. This week: voting in today’s partisan primary election.

Today throughout the great state of Wisconsin is the partisan primary election. Yes, after 8,000 years and multiple news cycles about old tweets, it’s finally happening! If you haven’t already voted absentee, you should vote today. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Because it’s a partisan primary, you’ll only vote within one political party.

The big statewide race, of course, is Wisconsin Governor. If you’re voting Republican, you’ll vote for either Tom Tiffany or Andy Manske. Tiffany is the presumed winner. If you’re voting Democratic, you’ll vote for David Crowley, Joel Brennan, Francesca Hong, or Kelda Roys. It’s pretty much between Crowley and Hong; Sara Rodriguez, Missy Hughes, and Mandela Barnes will also appear on ballots, but they’ve dropped out.

The Republican winner and the Democratic winner of today’s election will face off in the general election on November 3.

Another statewide race is Lieutenant Governor. If you’re voting Republican, you’ll vote for either David Varnam or Will Martin. If you’re voting Democratic, you’ll vote for the sole candidate, Sarah Godlewski.

Another statewide race is Secretary of State. If you’re voting Republican, you’ll vote for Jay Schroeder, Brayden Myer, Nate Pollnow, or Cindy Werner. If you’re voting Democratic, you’ll vote for the sole candidate, JoCasta Zamarripa.

The final statewide race is State Treasurer. If you’re voting Republican, you’ll vote for the sole candidate, John S. Leiber. If you’re voting Democratic, you’ll vote for either Yee Leng Xiong or Dylan Ray Helmenstine.
