We’re exactly two weeks away from the 2026 primary for Wisconsin governor. On Tuesday, August 11, Republicans will vote for Tom Tiffany (or Andy Manske, we guess), while Democrats will vote for David Crowley, Joel Brennan, Francesca Hong, Kelda Roys, or Mandela Barnes (or Sara Rodriguez or Missy Hughes, both of whom have dropped out but will still appear on ballots, we guess).
Two weeks! Which means 8,000 more twists and turns in an already chaotic and convoluted race! Fun! Here are today’s updates:
• David Crowley announced his campaign has raised more than $775,000 since re-entering the race in mid-July. “This kind of support in such a short window tells me Wisconsin Democrats want a nominee with a record of delivering results, not just talking about them,” Crowley said in a press release on Tuesday.
Unlike Crowley’s previous press releases, Tuesday’s release actually mentions the name of one of his primary opponents: Francesca Hong. Not only that, it brings up the whole “Republicans WANT you to vote for Hong” thing:
The Crowley campaign is the only one that has the resources to compete with the biggest spender so far in the Democratic primary—the Republican Governors Association—which is trying to trick Democrats into voting for Hong because she is their preferred candidate to run against.
“We need a governor who can win, govern from day one, and fight for working families,” Crowley said. “That’s the campaign we’re building, and this momentum is only growing.”
• In other news, Hong leads Crowley by 29 points in a new State Navigate poll.
• And oh yeah, the one and only televised debate between the Democratic candidates airs live tonight on WISN 12 from 7-8 p.m. You’d think a five-candidate debate would be longer than one hour, but you’d be WRONG.
