Hey! Guess what? It’s time to vote on when the Marcus Center snow pile will melt THIS year!

You know the pile. It’s that big snow pile in downtown Milwaukee, at 929 N. Water St. The one on the side of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts parking structure. The one that’s created by snow being plowed through a gap in the fence on the parking structure’s top floor. The one we’ve been keeping track of for years. The one that, yes, is still available in T-shirt form.


Anyway, after a relatively snow-less January and a relatively sloppy pile in mid-February, the Marcus Center snow pile is finally in its proper, majestic form. Here it was on February 24:

So when will it melt? In 2024, it bit the big one on April 15. In 2023, April 30. In both 2022 and 2021, April 8. We probably have records going even further back, but exact dates for the past four years is sad enough.

Vote below! (A few clarifications: Yes, we know there are other piles throughout the city and county, but they’re not the Marcus Center snow pile! And yes, we know there are other piles on the State Street side of the Marcus Center parking structure. We respect these piles, but since they’re not as publicly facing as the Water Street pile, we don’t keep track of them. Oh, and that plan to knock down the parking structure and build a 55-story mass timber tower there is currently in limbo.)
