In case you missed it, after nearly a decade of endless meetings, task forces, and wild ideas, Milwaukee County is committed to saving the Mitchell Park Domes. How committed? A cool $30 million—paid out over six years—committed.

Back in July, the Milwaukee County Board and Milwaukee County Supervisor David Crowley both approved the so-called Domes Reimagined plan. In its updated form, the $114.9 million plan to rehab the Domes (and surrounding Mitchell Park) calls for a six-year County commitment of $30 million, which will leverage roughly $84 million in private investment and state and federal tax credits. Securing the non-County dollars will be the responsibility of advocacy group Milwaukee Domes Alliance, formerly known as Friends of the Domes, who first presented the Domes Reimagined plan in 2024. The Milwaukee Domes Alliance will be in charge of operations of the Domes—and on the hook for their future expenses—via a 99-year lease with the County. (The County will retain ownership of Mitchell Park itself.)

So how does the six-year rehab plan shake out? What will be repaired, rehabbed, and “reimagined” when? Glad you asked! Domes Reimagined is broken up into two phases, with the first phase further broken up into three sub-phases. Here’s a breakdown of all those phases, using information and slides found in a “Mitchell Park Domes Lease and Developments” Powerpoint presented to the County Board last week.

PHASE 1A – Spring 2027 (no later than end of 2028)

• Estimated cost: $49 million

PHASE 1B – Spring 2029 (after 1A, no later than 2034)

• Estimated cost: $32.4 million

PHASE 1C – Spring 2030 (after 1B, no later than 2034)

• Estimated cost: $33.4 million

PHASE 2 – Once all of Phase 1 is complete

• Estimated cost: fully funded by Milwaukee Domes Alliance; no County funding
