When we last checked in with Nick Maas—absolutely no relation to the author of this article, by the way!—the talented Milwaukee troubadour was welcoming listeners to his “House For Two,” the first single and music video released under his own name instead of his longstanding Cabin Essence moniker. Just over a year later, Maas has set his sights on the outer edges of the galaxy.
Today marks the release of Maas’ second single. “Around Again” is a light, airy, and altogether timeless indie-folk track about feeling a sense of connection in the vastness of existence when the day-to-day patterns leave you feeling lost and disconnected. True to the song’s concept, the new music video that’s directed, filmed, and edited by Nels Lindquist of I’m Cold Productions features Maas—in the role of a disinterested and unfulfilled astronomy professor—recapturing his love for the cosmos though the lens of a telescope he buys at a yard sale.
Along the way, Maas jams under the stars in the Milwaukee Public Museum Planetarium, strolls around UW-Milwaukee and Holy Hill, cruises around Bay View, grabs a drink at Stella’s: A Cocktail Dive, and encounters his old pal Trapper Schoepp. Before going out to find your place in the universe, watch the music video for “Around Again” below. Oh, and speaking of getting out there, Maas will play a free show at Crafty Cow in Bay View on Wednesday, February 19 as part of our “Midweek Music” concert series.
