Brady Street’s Underground Tavern, 1239 E. Brady St., will close its doors for good on October 8. The bar was formerly known as WurstBar. The sudden closure comes roughly seven months after it rebranded as the Underground Tavern. WurstBar first opened in late 2021.
“After 5 amazing years on Brady Street, Underground Tavern (formerly WurstBar) will be closing its doors on October 8th,” reads an announcement posted to social media Friday afternoon.
An “all day happy hour” will be in effect through the 8th. “Come on in, grab a $4 drink, and raise a glass with us one more time,” the announcement reads. It also states that WurstBar will be back at the 2027 Wisconsin State Fair.

Here’s what we had to say about the Underground Tavern back in March:
At the end of the day, Underground Tavern isn’t really a far departure from WurstBar and that’s okay. The name has changed. Burgers and rib-sticking sandwiches have taken the place of sausages. The vaguely Germanic beer hall (projected through a Brady Street lens) now has some old beer signs nailed on top of it. The beer and spirits selection both get the job done. You can still watch a game and listen to an ever-changing TouchTunes playlist—the recent Garth Brooks to Papa Roach one-two punch was something to behold!—but you’ll be basked in red lights as you do so.
