If you’ve read Milwaukee Record with any regularity in recent years, there’s a chance you’ve happened upon our coverage of Alphonso’s The Original and the West Allis pizzeria’s shockingly massive “Lightning Rod” mozzarella sticks that are pretty much just breaded batons stuffed with cheese. Perhaps you’ve also seen our articles on Makk ‘n’ Cheese, a former Bay View macaroni concept that’s now located on Oakland Avenue. Well, as early as the end of this summer, you’ll be able to get favorite dishes from both of those restaurants at a brand new vendor that’s coming to 3rd Street Market Hall.

Yes, Alphonso’s owner Tim Szuta and Makk ’n’ Cheese owner Greg Kieckbusch will soon join forces on Rod & Makk, a forthcoming vendor that will be coming to the downtown food hall. The new venture will take over the space previously occupied by Supernova Coffee & Doughnuts, which recently combined with Midway Bakery and moved to a larger space in the hall.

In addition to Alphonso’s famed Lightning Rods, Rod & Makk will also offer a spicy take on the oversized mozzarella sticks called Hot Rods. On the macaroni side of things, customers can expect Makk ‘n’ Cheese classics like Makk Daddy, Elote Makk, BBQ Pulled Pork Makk, and more to be on the menu. Stay tuned for more info on Rod & Makk’s opening date in the weeks to come. In the meantime, get ready for some tasty macaroni and the biggest goddamn mozzarella sticks you’ve ever seen in downtown Milwaukee.
