It’s been four months since long-running Milwaukee comedy club The Laughing Tap closed its doors at 706B S. 5th St. in Walker’s Point and announced it would be moving to an unspecified new location in early fall. Well, that location has finally been specified.
On Monday, The Laughing Tap announced it will be moving to the George Watts & Son building at 761 N. Jefferson St. in downtown Milwaukee. You know, that fancy and historic building on the corner of Jefferson and Mason? The one across from Shah Jee’s? Talk about some swanky new digs!
“We will begin construction very soon and hope to reopen in early 2026, if not, sooner!” a social media post reads. “This is obviously not the original timeline we had hoped for, but we needed to take the extra time to ensure this was the right place. It absolutely is. Thank you for your patience and excitement for the next chapter of Milwaukee’s Home for Comedy! We cannot wait to get back to putting on great shows and laughing with all of you again!”
The Laughing Tap is owned and operated by Milwaukee Comedy producers Matt Kemple, Kaitlin McCarthy, and Greg Bach. The club hosted hundreds of standup acts during its five-year run in Walker’s Point. Bobcat Goldthwait, Dana Gould, Michael Ian Black, Laurie Kilmartin, and Sean Patton were just some of the big names that graced The Laughing Tap’s stage. (Meanwhile, the annual Milwaukee Comedy Festival just wrapped up its 20th installment.)
“Stay tuned to our socials and LaughingTap.com for any and all updates on the new space and Grand (Re)Opening dates,” Laughing Tap’s announcement concludes. We will!
