For the last several years, the Milwaukee Public Market has been making the dead of winter a little more bearable (emphasis on “little”) with its outdoor, 950-square-foot “Dinky Rink.” Is the so-called “area’s smallest public ice rink” coming back to the north side of the Public Market, in the parking lot, this winter? You better believe it: THE DINKY RINK WILL RETURN JANUARY 19.

“Developing fun and unique amenities during the winter months only adds to the experience at the market and the greater Historic Third Ward neighborhood,” says Paul Schwartz, executive director of the Public Market and Business Improvement District #2 in a press release. “Whether it’s a group of friends enjoying an outside winter activity, a date night for a couple dining out, or a family encouraging the kids to enjoy the outdoors, The Dinky Rink’s audience has been wide ranging and enjoyed by many.”

Similar to years past, 90-minute sessions on the wee lil’ rink are available by reservation only. Make those reservations HERE. (Oh, and BYO skates.) A ceremonial “first skate” with Milwaukee Admirals mascot Roscoe is set for Friday, January 19 at 9 a.m.

“Measuring roughly 950 square feet, the Dinky Rink features a covered ‘farm shed’ area for seating, ice curling, outdoor heaters, and access to food and drink options from public market vendors,” explains the press release. “The Dinky Rink offers a quaint setting for families and friends to have their own ice-skating rink for parties or family outings.”

The rink that is dinky will be open during general Public Market operating hours, weather permitting. Speaking of weather, the rink will remain outside the Public Market this winter for “as long as Mother Nature allows.” NO ICE FISHING.
