Ex Fabula kicks off 17th season of storytelling programming on September 25th at The Sugar Maple

MILWAUKEE — Ex Fabula, a Milwaukee nonprofit organization that promotes community building through live storytelling, is pleased to announce the start of their 17th season of StorySlams. The first event, with a theme of “Second Chances,” is scheduled for Thursday, September 25th at 7pm at The Sugar Maple in Bay View (441 E Lincoln Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207).

“I’m excited for Milwaukee and the incredible stories we’re all going to share in Season 17,” said Ex Fabula program coordinator Oliver Moody. “Every StorySlam is an opportunity to remember the strength in community and to share our lived experiences on and off stage. Every season is a new thread in how we’re talking about Milwaukee to the world and how we’re speaking from this land and water that shapes us.”

Event attendees are welcome to come and listen to stories, or to participate in several interactive elements throughout the night. At each StorySlam event, any attendee can throw their name in the hat for the chance to share a true, personal story based on the night’s theme in 5 minutes or less. Guests are also invited to submit UltraShorts, which are 1-2 sentence stories written on a slip of paper to be read aloud by the event emcees.

“Everyone is encouraged to be a part of that at whatever level they’re comfortable with,” said Moody.

StorySlam tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are now available at www.exfabula.org/tickets.

As part of Ex Fabula’s commitment to equity and access, a limited number of free “pay it forward” tickets will be available online for individuals who could otherwise not afford to attend. Community members are invited to support this practice by purchasing “pay-it-forward” tickets or becoming Ex Fabula members. More information on membership is available at www.exfabula.org/membership.

Ex Fabula strives to meet the needs of each attendee via a variety of accommodations, as detailed at www.exfabula.org/accessibility. In response to a request, ASL interpretation will be provided at the September 25th StorySlam. If attendees require any additional accommodations at an event, they can reach out to [email protected] or call 414-530-3503.

Other events scheduled for this fall include a StorySlam on October 28th with the theme of “Strangers On A…” hosted in partnership with Renaissance Theaterworks and Next Act Theatre; a StoryStretch workshop on November 6th held at Fruition MKE; and AfterDark: For the Culture, a semi-curated storytelling event held on November 13th at Radio Milwaukee and hosted in partnership with HYFIN.
