CULTURE X DESIGN UNVEILS BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROGRAM PRESENTED BY MILWAUKEE BREWERS

With support from the Milwaukee Brewers and Bank of America, the new event curation firm announces a month-long Black History Month program featuring local musicians, creatives, and national scholars

MILWAUKEE, Tuesday, February 16 – Culture x Design, a premier event curation and engagement marketing firm, proudly announces its first-ever Black History Month programming presented by the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club. Emphasizing the national theme “African Americans the Arts,” the month-long celebration features a diverse array of curated film screenings, forums, and musical events honoring the significant contributions of Black Americans to visual arts, music, and culture.

The 2024 Black History Month program boasts a dynamic lineup of activities, including Black History Trivia, a forum focused on Black creative entrepreneurship, and two special events dedicated to exploring the musical legacy of recording artist Lauryn Hill, marking the 25th anniversary of her debut solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

The first event, “In Retrospect: The Life & Times of Lauryn Hill,” takes place on Saturday, February 10, at Radio Milwaukee (220 E. Pittsburgh Ave.). Baltimore educator LaShay Harvey, Ph.D., founder of Black Girl Saturday School, and award-winning cultural critic Joan Morgan, Ph.D., Program Director of the Center for Black Culture at New York University, delve into Hill’s cultural impact as a singer-songwriter, rapper, and actor. Morgan, a pioneering feminist writer and hip-hop journalist, authored “She Begat This: Twenty Years of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” (Atria Books, 2018).

Walkers Point music hall, The Cooperage (822 S Water St.), hosts the Hill tribute concert, “Groove Theory: The Lauryn Hill Experience,” on Saturday, February 24, at 8 p.m. Curated by Milwaukee ensemble Brew City Soul, this unique experience promises captivating renditions of Lauryn Hill’s music by some of the city’s finest performing artists.

The collaboration with the Milwaukee Brewers, Bank of America, and media partners HYFIN/Radio Milwaukee have made it possible for Culture x Design to curate an ambitious program, including free public events and ticketed experiences such as “In Retrospect” and “Groove Theory,” says Geraud Blanks, Managing Partner and Creative Director of Culture x Design. Blanks expressed the importance of inclusive activities during Black History Month: “The need for diverse thought, engaging dialogue, and entertaining cultural expression never gets old and is never outdated,” he remarked. “Our mission is to create platforms that celebrate our shared culture, and our partnerships with the Milwaukee Brewers and Bank of America enable us to achieve this.”
