Every Wednesday at noon, Ryan Schleicher, Evan Rytlewski, and Matt Wild take to the WMSE airwaves to discuss all things Milwaukee. This half-hour fun-fest is called The Disclaimer, so named because none of the oft-ridiculous views expressed on the show necessarily reflect the views of the hosts’ employers. Milwaukee music, Milwaukee art, Milwaukee events, and D.I.Y. lawn care tips are frequently discussed—and rarely agreed upon. The Disclaimer: Talk radio for the sane.

Milwaukee’s East Side neighborhood has seen plenty of change over the decades, but the recent closings of businesses like Yield, Red Dot, and Nick’s House/Y-Not III have left many people wondering: Is the East Side dying? Ryan, Evan, and Matt quickly admit that no, it’s not really dying, but perhaps its standing as Milwaukee’s cultural center is diminishing (or already gone). As a longtime East Side resident, Matt tries to assure the group that everything is fine. Evan praises the area’s deep ties to UWM, but bemoans its loss of character in favor of fast food and generic college-friendly fare. Ryan, meanwhile, admits that all the talk of cultural amenities and enjoying dinner and a movie pales in comparison to the underlying development and gentrification issues at hand. Everyone agrees the neighborhood probably doesn’t need another Subway.
