Last month, we told you the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (aka “WAMI”) released a people’s choice ballot to let listeners select some winners for its April 17 awards ceremony taking place at Appleton’s Performing Arts Center. Today, the WAMI board issued its own nominations for the 2016 WAMIs and named three musicians to its Hall of Fame. Those HoF inductees include “The Tennessee Waltz” co-writer Pee Wee King, jazz pianist and composer Lyle Mays, and guitarist and Huey Lewis touring member Dave Steffens.

As the organization continues its upward climb to respectability and viability, a few of the categories seem to show an increased understanding or the state’s music climate. That said, Fox Cities buttrock staple Boxcar is up for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year, Milwaukee Ale House is nominated for Live Club/Venue of the Year, Happy Schnapps Combo and Squeezettes will face off for Polka Band of the Year honors, and Howl Street was snubbed for Recording Studio consideration by Makin’ Sausage Music, among others.

Take a look at the full list of nominees to see the names of people, places, and tribute bands who could be taking home hardware next month.
