Last June, Milwaukee Record invited former A.V. Club Milwaukee City Editor-turned-author Steven Hyden to Cactus Club to talk about his debut book, Your Favorite Band Is Killing Me, for an interactive discussion we called “Milwaukee Record Book Club.” We recorded it and released it as a live episode of our “On The Record” podcast, swearing we’d host another Book Club again sometime. Maybe.

Thursday, June 22—almost exactly a year after that first Book Club—we’ll reconvene at Cactus Club for another edition. This time around, we’ve invited Vinyl Me, Please Senior Editor Andrew Winistorfer (and possibly other VMP contributors) to join us for a lively chat about the record subscription club’s first book, 100 Albums You Need In Your Collection. Not familiar? Here’s how Vinyl Me, Please sums it up:

“Celebrating artists as varied and influential as Bikini Kill, Aretha Franklin, Wilco, and beyond, each entry includes an album’s artwork, a short essay from a contributing music writer, and further suggestions to help you expand your taste and build your collection.”

Once again, this event is free and open to the public (21+). It starts at 7 p.m. The book will be available for purchase on-site, and both Vinyl Me, Please and Milwaukee Record will hang out after for a DJ set that will feature albums in the book and beyond. See you there!
