Following a breakout 2022 and an even more accomplished 2023, this year has been an uncharacteristically quiet one for NilexNile to this point. Outside of releasing his (great) “Teen Spirit” single way back in January, hitting the stage for just a select few live outings locally, and making his Mile Of Music debut last month, the up-and-coming rapper has mostly kept to himself for much of 2024. Thankfully, the shortage of public-facing activity doesn’t mean he’s planning to slow down anytime soon. He’s just been setting down tracks for what’s ahead.

Today, NilexNile released “Balance” on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. The song—which features guest accompaniment by Chicago rapper MFnMelo and moody production from Hagen Brothers (who previously collaborated with NilexNile on acclaimed single “Breakfast”)—is the first single from a forthcoming album that will follow up last year’s Nostalgia Everclear project. “Balance” continues the trend of NilexNile’s ongoing evolution as an artist, as his confidence has never seemed more evident and we’re struggling to recall an instance where his lyricism has been more dynamic.

Though a release date for the album isn’t public at this time, we’re excited to hear what else he’s been working on. We’re also preparing for a busy 2025 from NilexNile. You can (and absolutely should) listen to “Balance” below or wherever you stream music.
