When we last debuted a music video from NilexNile back in mid-May, we told you how the up-and-coming Milwaukee rapper was chasing an accomplished 2021 with even bigger and better things this year. In the two-plus months since that article was posted, that trend has only continued, as he regularly performed all around Milwaukee, embarked on a short Midwest tour, headlined a stage at the Summer Soulstice Music Festival, and released the 11-song Free Lunch Deluxe album.

Along the way, NilexNile found time to shoot a music video for one of the new tracks from his bigger, better, more ambitious version last year’s Free Lunch. And true to that ongoing pattern of upward trajectory, it’s his best video yet. Shot by frequent NilexNile visual collaborator Carter Green, the “Enroute” music video blends high-energy performance footage of the rapper on stage at Summer Soulstice with sun-soaked shots of him kicking back with friends on a basketball court, at the skate park, and on the trails. Featured rapper 39tharchitect also makes an appearance to lay down his verse on camera.

“The song is about moments in life where you always dreamed of as an artist,” NilexNile tells Milwaukee Record. “It’s about being successful, rocking the stage with your friends, and hanging out with your day ones.”

You can see NilexNile on stage next weekend at Brady Street Festival, and you can be sure he has more shows, festival appearances, and new material in the works as well. In the meantime, you can watch the “Enroute” music video below.
