Do you like books? Do you like music? Do you like books about music? Then you’re in luck, because we’ve partnered with beloved Bay View bookstore Lion’s Tooth (2421 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) for the Lion’s Tooth + Milwaukee Record Music Book Club!
How does it work? Just stop by Lion’s Tooth on one Thursday per month, from 6-8 p.m., and discuss a new music-related book. That’s it! The Club has been going strong for nearly a year; here are the next two installments:
Thursday February 19, 6-8 p.m.
The Royal We, by Roddy Bottum
“THE ROYAL WE is a poetic survey of a time set in a magical city that once was and is no more. It is a memoir written by Roddy Bottum, a musician and artist, that documents his coming of age and out of the closet in 1980s San Francisco, a charged era of bicycle messengers, punk rock, street witches, wheatgrass, and rebellion. The book follows his travels from Los Angeles, growing up gay with no role models, to San Francisco, where he formed Faith No More and went on to tour the world relentlessly, surviving heroin addiction and the plight of AIDS, to become a queer icon.”
Thursday March 19, 6-8 p.m.
Bread Of Angels, by Patti Smith
“The most intimate of Smith’s memoirs, BREAD OF ANGELS takes us through her teenage years where the first glimmers of art and romance take hold. Arthur Rimbaud and Bob Dylan emerge as creative role models as she begins to write poetry then lyrics, ultimately merging both into the songs of iconic recordings such as Horses, Wave, and Easter.”
Oh, and a heads-up that Lion’s Tooth will celebrate its five-year anniversary on Sunday, March 8 at Cactus Club! We’ll have more info on that soon, but for now, mark your calendars!
