If you listen to Milwaukee-made music with any regularity, there’s a good chance you’re familiar with Eric Arsnow’s work. Over the last 10-plus years, he’s had lengthy stints playing bass in Tigernite and Devils Teeth. Even though he’s no longer in those bands, Arsnow currently plays guitar in Fight Dice. In addition to his contributions to that local D&D-themed rock supergroup, the accomplished Milwaukee musician and videographer is also the bandleader and founding member of a brand new project.
Seances is Arsnow’s latest aural endeavor. To this point, the self-described “basement new wave” outfit has put out two singles. With the debut Seances album, Power Is A Phantom, set to come out on Friday, February 28, the project is treating listeners to one more taste of the record in advance of its release. Today, Seances cast a third single into the world. “Forgiveness” is a peppy and angular post-punk jam that evokes elements of Joy Division and The Cure with an anthemic twist. The multi-instrumentalist is joined on the song by guitarist Jason Kartz (of Faux Fiction) and Bex, who adds some vocal harmonies.
Using Ashley Altadonna’s album illustrations as source material, Arsnow also animated and directed a music video for the song that finds ghosts, monsters, and other ghoulish figures together in the celebratory…spirit. Much like the band itself, the video is fun and lively with an underlying darkness. Before the nine-track album is released on Friday, get to know Seances and watch the music video for “Forgiveness” below.
