“Sup kids we are officially TEMPORARILY CLOSED on the google I have no clue what temporary means but the loss we endured at the hands of the heavy rain Saturday is going to put us out of commission for a while.”
So wrote Ricky Ramirez, owner of beloved Bay View bar The Mothership, in the aftermath of the 1,000-year flood that hit the Milwaukee area back in August. The rains were indeed heavy. The damages the bar suffered were catastrophic. “Temporarily closed” turned out to be an understatement.
“Everything in our basement was completely underwater from floor to ceiling,” Ramirez continued in the August post. “I finally toured the basement what I could walk through and it’s beyond devastating our ice machines and water heater were floating through the basement destroying all of our equipment all our merch is gone one of a kind bottles of booze you name it we lost it.”
But now, three months after closing its doors at 2301 S. Logan Ave., The Mothership is officially back. The bar reopened on Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to midnight. Beginning Wednesday, it will resume its regular hours, 4 p.m. to bar time. Nature, as they say, is healing.

What can you expect from the reopened Mothership? The bar is easing back into business (no Hamm’s or other beers on tap, for now), but it remains its usual warm, friendly, fun, and funny self.
“Now more than ever we don’t have everything lol,” Ramirez wrote on Monday. In other words, yep, The Mothership is back. As it should be.
