Back in January, the prestigious food-celebratin’ James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for its annual James Beard Awards. A number of Milwaukee restaurants, bars, and chefs made the cut. Now, the finalists have been announced, and one Milwaukee establishment remains.
Yes, Walker’s Point hot spot 1033 Omakase is moving on, and is up for the nationwide honor of Best New Restaurant. Congrats, 1033 Omakase!
The Mothership, Vanessa Rose of Mother’s, and Lisa Kirkpatrick and Paul Zerkel of Goodkind were previous semifinalists for Outstanding Bar, Emerging Chef, and Best Chef: Midwest, respectively.
If we look beyond Milwaukee proper, we find another finalist: Zak Baker of Wauwatosa restaurant Ca’Lucchenzo, up for Best Chef: Midwest. Statewide, Hastings Cameron of Madison’s Imaginary Factory is up for Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service; Sway Brewing + Blending in Baileys Harbor is up for Outstanding Wine and Other Beverages Program; and Cultured in Sister Bay is up for Outstanding Bakery.
Congrats to everyone! Winners will be announced June 15 at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards Ceremony in Chicago.
