From 1997 until 2006, and again from 2016 until early 2024, WMSE‘s Friday Night Freak Show delivered a monthly cult film screening to the Times Cinema. But now, beginning with a Friday, September 20 screening of Reservoir Dogs, the series has a new home: Milwaukee Film’s historic Oriental Theatre.
“We are ecstatic to embark on this new collaboration with WMSE to host the incredibly popular film series Friday Night Freak Show,” says Cara Ogburn, artistic director for Milwaukee Film, in a press release. “Hosting this quintessential, fun, and high-energy Milwaukee program at our historic Oriental Theatre every month is an opportunity we eagerly embrace.”
Like all Freak Shows, the Reservoir Dogs screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a set from a WMSE DJ—in this case, Johnny Z from The Chicken Shack. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. Chris Penn will yell, “Larry, stop pointin’ that fuckin’ gun at my dad!” a little after 9.
Tickets are $13, and are available HERE.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Friday Night Freak Show to the stunning Oriental Theatre,” says WMSE Station Manager Tom Crawford in the press release. “The support from our community for the Friday Night Freak Show over the decades has been incredible. At WMSE, we love bringing together Milwaukeeans who share a passion for music and art, and this move perfectly illustrates that commitment. A huge thank you to 3 Sheeps Brewing and Milwaukee Film for their generous partnerships. We encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the fun. We’ll see you at the Freak Show!”
