The year is 1997. Due to rising crime rates in the country, New York City has been turned into a maximum security prison that holds all the nation’s violent offenders. All bridges and waterways are blocked off, mined, and guarded from the outside. Nobody gets out. But when the President is abducted and taken there as a hostage, one man is called upon to break into the world’s most dangerous penitentiary to bring him back alive.
That’s pretty much the plot of John Carpenter’s classic 1981 film Escape From New York, which Milwaukee Record is screening at Avalon Theater on Wednesday, November 20. Tickets are on sale NOW! This dystopian sci-fi thriller stars Kurt Russell as former Special Forces member-turned-prisoner Snake Plissken, who is given 24 hours to rescue the President in order to regain his freedom. Lots of violence, oodles of action, and some fun one-liners ensue. Over the course of this 99-minute masterpiece, viewers are also treated to memorable performances by the likes of Ernest Borgnine, Isaac Hayes, Adrienne Barbeau, and Harry Dean Stanton.
As always, this 7 p.m. “Milwaukee Record Presents” screening at Avalon Theater is sponsored by our friends at Lakefront Brewery and Gruber Law Offices. Tickets are $11 and, as we mentioned, are on sale NOW. Escape from your normal midweek routine and watch Escape From New York with your pals from Milwaukee Record on Wednesday, November 20. We’ll see you at the movies!
