Tuesday night, we grabbed some moonshine, hopped in a rickety canoe, and chilled out in an underwater leech grotto for the second installment of Milwaukee Record LiveSCREAM Theater. Yep, we watched 1959’s Attack Of The Giant Leeches! Swamp trash, shoddy leech costumes, and dynamite. What could go wrong?
As part of the 2019 Milwaukee Film Festival (tickets are on sale NOW!), we’re spending the entire month of October bringing you a live viewing party of classic public domain horror and sci-fi films. For last night’s LiveSCREAM episode, Milwaukee Record‘s Matt Wild (that’s me) joined forces with Red Letter Media’s Jack Packard and WMSE’s Maggie Iken to witness all 62 glorious minutes of Leeches. Along the way, Maggie discussed the strange fate of the film’s lead actress, Jack professed his disdain for David Lynch, and Matt shared some baffling pictures of his homemade leech costume that he used to wear when he played shows with his band and yeah it’s best not to ask. Oh, and a bunch of people tuned in and joked along with us in real time! Thanks for doing that!
Want to join the fun next week? Just tune in to the Milwaukee Record YouTube channel, leave your comments there, or go nuts on Facebook or Twitter (#MRLST). Seen these movies 8,000 times already? Who cares! It’s all about watching brain-eating/blood-sucking monsters together.
Here’s the rest of the schedule:
Tuesday, October 15
DEMENTIA 13 (1963) w/ cast and crew of The Field (Tate Bunker, Kara Mulrooney, Tim Higgins, Mark Borchardt)
Tuesday, October 22
THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN’T DIE (1962) w/ Mack Bates
Monday, October 28
KILLERS FROM SPACE (1954) w/ Rick Katschke and Rob Wieland
Big thanks to Jack and Maggie for joining us for episode 2! Watch the whole thing below! (Oh, and the amazing theme song is “Empty Arrows & Exit Signs” by Farms In Trouble!)
