In the long and illustrious history of RuPaul’s Drag Race and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, only three queens have hailed from Milwaukee. Two of them—Trixie Mattel and Jaida Essence Hall—have won it all. Over the weekend, Hall (the reigning champion, who came out on top in Season 12 of Drag Race) appeared on The Pit Stop, a Drag Race after show that Mattel (who won All Stars Season 3) hosts, to talk about the just-aired fourth episode of Season 13.
Naturally, their shared hometown came up a few times. Over the course of the 25-minute episode, Hall talked about the “magnificent, lonely” moment of learning she won her season while quarantining in her Milwaukee apartment. When the subject of Flag Day came up, Mattel took a lighthearted jab at Milwaukee Public Schools for not teaching her about the holiday.
Later, Hall talked about first meeting Season 13 contestant Utica Queen at a performance at This Is It and Mattel referred to Phoenix (by way of Wisconsin) contestant Joey Jay as her “Milwaukee sister.” Before episode’s end, Hall told viewers not to sleep on Milwaukee and then Mattel—who says she lives “down the street” from Hall—also made her love for the city known.
“Milwaukee is fabulous,” Mattel says. “If you ever get a chance, come see me or Jaida or visit any of our lovely gay bars. Milwaukee is lit. Very lit.”
