Depending on which news sources you follow, Milwaukee is going through either a “renaissance” or a “reinvention.” However you want to define it, it’s safe to say that Milwaukee is currently building a lot of new and wonderful things! Here are some of them, brought to you by GTG Home Buyers!

• On September 18, 2025, Milwaukee officials celebrated the final bit of demolition work on the former Northridge Mall. “It’s official. The former Northridge Mall is down, paving the way for future development,” the Department of City Development said in a statement. R.I.P.

Exactly three months later, on December 18, 2025, Milwaukee officials unveiled a “Vision Report” of what could and should be done with the now-empty 58-acre site, rebranded as Granville Station. “There’s a huge opportunity to support new jobs, to have new investment in an area of the city that, quite frankly, deserves our attention,” Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said at a press conference.

So what does the report itself say? Basically this: Milwaukee should find a “catalytic anchor user” for the site, one that can “generate regular activity, attract additional investment, and redefine the identity of the area.” So yeah, Milwaukee should think big.

The report, prepared by the DCD with support from Baker Tilly and GRAEF, presents two other “Development Scenarios”: “Redevelop the site into a modern business park with a focus on job creation,” and “Redevelop the site into a mixed-use environment with a focus on new housing.” But it’s clear that the “Recruit a large anchor user to drive demand for new investment in the area” scenario is the one the report prefers.

“This Report recommends a proactive effort to recruit a large anchor user that can be a catalyst for the area,” the report says, “while continuing to explore site design concepts and evaluate the economic viability and public benefits of various development scenarios in case a large user cannot be secured in the initial round of recruitment.”

Example anchor uses listed in the report include youth sports facility, entertainment complex, hospital or clinic, college or university, research center, and major employer.

For what it’s worth, the report also includes community suggestions for the Granville site. The number one suggestion from online comments? A sports facility.

“Over 40% of online comments specifically mentioned opportunities for sports and recreation, which had broad enthusiasm and emerged as the strongest single theme from public engagement,” the report says.
