Enjoy some Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport planespotting via live YouTube stream

For the past 100 years (!), Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport has punched above its weight. The user-friendly MKE airport can get you where you need to go without all the mass-of-humanity hassles of airports like Chicago, Los Angeles, or Denver. It’s so pleasant to fly MKE, in fact, that you often have time to browse a used bookstore. Or learn something at a museum. Or go shopping. Or mediate. Or recombobulate. Or do any number of wonderful, quirky things.

But what if you want to experience all the relaxation of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport without actually booking a flight? You have two options. The first is the MKE Layton Avenue Observation Area. It’s a public parking lot that, as we said back in 2023, “grants motorists a front row view of takeoffs, landings, and other aviation-based happenings taking place at the airport.” Tune your radio to 88.5 FM and you can even listen in on the air traffic controllers!

The second option is rather new: a live, 24/7, year-round camera and accompanying YouTube channel that gives online viewers a chance to enjoy all the MKE arrivals, departures, taxiing, and general activities. Fun!

Operated by Milwaukee Aviation Live, the fully automated tracking camera is located on the northern end of the airport, and is mounted on the In Plane View restaurant on Layton. (Good fish fry!) The camera footage is livestreamed to the Flightradar24 YouTube channel, which currently streams from eight different airports. The Flightradar24 stream also provides aircraft identification and other flight data.
