Kegel’s Inn to Open One-of-a-Kind Beer Garden Experience at War Memorial Center
“The Beer Garden at The War Memorial Center” will be serving Kegel’s Inn authentic German food and beer all summer long

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 10, 2021) – The War Memorial Center and Kegel’s Inn are partnering to bring an exciting experience to Milwaukee’s premiere lakefront called “The Beer Garden at The War Memorial Center.” Beginning Friday, July 2, 2021, through early October, Kegel’s Inn will serve delicious, authentic German food and beer to Milwaukee’s Lake Michigan visitors from of a restored 1957 Grumman-Olson Step van and matching trailer.

Located in the War Memorial Center’s newly renovated north parking lot, the beer garden will be open Wednesday – Friday, 4-8 p.m. followed by Saturday and Sunday, 12-8 p.m. The menu features Kegel’s Inn signature loaded brats and pretzels, plus imported German beers from Hofbrau and local beers from around Milwaukee. A portion of the proceeds from this one-of-a-kind experience will go towards benefitting the War Memorial Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to help with lost revenue due to the pandemic.

“We are thrilled to be the official operator of ‘The Beer Garden at The War Memorial Center.’ With it being in the heart of Milwaukee and a phenomenal outdoor space, it’s the perfect location to bring this experience to life,” said Julian Kegel, owner of Kegel’s Inn. “This will be a great way to serve the downtown community as people return to work this summer, and we can’t wait to serve all the pedestrians and cyclists that use the Oak Leaf Trail along the lake. It’s truly one of the best places for a beer garden in Milwaukee.”

With spectacular views of Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the downtown skyline, the War Memorial Center will be an amazing place to enjoy a refreshing beverage and savory snacks. As a bonus, visitors who park in the lot will receive a ticket for a free beer, and will be able to explore the center, including the view upstairs on Fitch Plaza and the War Memorial Center’s 40,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with spanning views of the lake and downtown. It is not only an architectural icon, but also a living memorial of the lost veterans who protected our nation, to truly “Honor the Dead by Serving the Living.”

“We could not be more excited to share our stunning lakefront facility with the public through this unique experience. ‘The Beer Garden at the War Memorial Center’ is the perfect way to celebrate summer with the best views of Milwaukee’s skyline and Lake Michigan,” said Dan Buttery, President and CEO of War Memorial Center. “Kegel’s Inn is the ideal partner to bring outstanding food, drink, and hospitality to this treasured venue. People who attended Oktoberfest last year were blown away by the space and asked us to bring back the experience. It is our hope that Wisconsinites will learn more about this special memorial built to honor our heroes.”

“The Beer Garden at The War Memorial Center” is the second installment of the partnership between Kegel’s Inn and the War Memorial Center, with the first being “Oktoberfest on the Lakefront” in 2020. While last year’s Oktoberfest was very limited in size, look forward to a new partnership with Swarmm Events to help make this year’s event even larger. Milwaukee’s Oktoberfest will take place September 24 – 26, 2021.
