Canopies‘ self-titled 2011 EP was only five songs long, but that was enough to land it at a lofty number four on our list of the 50 best Milwaukee albums of the 2010s (so far). A sparkling, dreamy, and ridiculously danceable synth-pop album of the highest order, Canopies only flaw was that it wasn’t immediately followed up by four more EPs and at least 14 full-lengths. Indeed, fans would have to wait until February of this year for a new Canopies song, “Miss You Now.” It was terrific, but it did raise a frightening question: Could another three-year drought between releases be in the cards?
Nope, because the band just released another single, “Getting Older,” today. An extremely limited number (think 25 copies) of lathe-cut seven-inch records of “Miss You Now” and “Getting Older” are also being offered for the low, low price of $8. Oh, and we’re told that the band is nearing completion of its first proper full-length album. We repeat: the band is nearing completion of its first proper full-length album.
Dig into the new song below, and all hail the return (again) of one of Milwaukee’s best bands.
