In January 2025, Fuzzysurf ended a two-year hiatus with the release of its ambitious, genre-jumping double LP entitled Chameleons. Since casting that great 20-track album into the world, the indie-tinged Great Lakes surf rock outfit returned to the stage for a semi-regular helping of live outings and—upholding their reputation as the band behind some of Milwaukee’s most prolific, inventive, and altogether impressive visuals set to music—released a slew of excellent videos (including arguably their best one yet).

Today, Fuzzysurf released another video for a Chameleons single. Except this time around, the band handed the creative reins to more than a dozen visual artists, each of whom put their own spin on a portion of the footage. The “Without You” video begins with some standard performance clips of the band filmed by past Fuzzysurf collaborator Franki Ludwig. Once that was edited by Franki’s brother (and Fuzzysurf bassist/go-to videographer) Joe Ludwig, it was chopped into approximately three-second pieces and distributed to a total of 15 people who were told they could manipulate the footage any way they saw fit.

The final project is something akin to a group project, except everyone pulls their weight and adds a different component to make the otherwise simple basement performance fun, stylistically expansive, and a welcome addition to Fuzzysurf’s sterling catalog of compelling music videos. See the band (and the work of Adam Matthew Ink, Ann Vollrath, Charity Ekpo, Chloe King, Emma Vaucher, Evie Hazelwood, Franki Ludwig, Jamie Hazelwood, Joe Ludwig, Q-Arts Media, Quinn Blakshere, Robert Ludwig, Sebastian Penn, Tommy Simms, Truman Vasko) in a variety of ways and watch the “Without You” music video now.
