If it seems like it’s been forever since you’ve heard a new Paper Holland song, well, that’s probably because it’s been forever since there’s been a new Paper Holland song. The indie-pop outfit’s debut and (to this point) only album, Happy Belated, came out way back in January of 2013. The wait will finally be over on April 30, when the band will take the Company Brewing stage to release Fast Food, a follow-up EP that is years in the making.
Prior to Paper Holland’s first release after 40 months spent breaking in a new rhythm section and laboring over what direction to take its material before recording said material, the band is ready to grant listeners an early helping of Fast Food with “Jazzy Jeff.” The single totes an utterly ’80s aura with sharp organ tones, auxiliary percussion, and falsetto “ooo”s and “ahh”s of singer Joe Tomcheck. As straightforward as the song is at times, Tomcheck’s infectious melody and the scintillating guest saxophone services of Soul Low’s Sean Hirthe should probably be enough to ensure “Jazzy Jeff” will be bouncing around in your subconscious until you’re able to hear the rest of Paper Holland’s latest a month from now.
