Struck with the yuletide spirit, Caley Conway gave listeners the gift of a holiday EP last December. Her Heart Be Light EP found the Milwaukee singer-songwriter taking artistic liberty “with abandon” in each of the four seasonal standards she selected by drastically changing arrangements and taking out lyrics she either didn’t like or didn’t know. A year after re-wrapping holiday classics (and a few days after we released her amazing rendition of “Jingle Bells” Conway and company performed for our Public Domain video series), she’s back with another set of songs to add to Milwaukee’s ever-growing Christmastime catalog.

Boleslaus The Cruel was arranged, recorded, and mixed by Conway. Joining her on inventive and altogether enjoyable takes on standards like “Silver Bells” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” is a stacked cast of collaborators including Ellie Jackson, Andrew Thoreen, John Larkin, and Liam O’Brien. Conway will be selling physical copies of the five-track Boleslaus The Cruel at tonight’s Field Report “Home For The Holidays” show (of which she’ll be a part). Or you can hear her play beloved holiday songs as they’ve never been played before by streaming the EP below.
